The Tunnel de Billy was lit - so not as exciting as some of the previous tunnels but still 2.5km in a channel 5m wide - we are 3.8m wide plus another 40 cm for the fenders.

Exiting Tunnel de Billy |
We stopped in Conde sur Marne, another pretty small town but it was properly shut, even the boulangerie was on 3 weeks holiday - France in August! But Carole caught her first fish so all was good.

Overnight stop (where I caught my fish) |
The weather was pretty rubbish for a day (just the one) - Carole said it was like proper sailing - having to take your oilies off to go for a wee!
We have now got to Chalons en Champagne - stopping here for a couple of days - nice place, lots to see. Planning on moving on on Friday - heading off towards Vitry le Francois, and then on to the Canal due Champagne et Bourgogne - just the name sounds good to us. Apparently it’s very weedy and in deepest rural France - should be interesting. Expecting the daily chore of cleaning the engine water filter to become a twice a day chore. This canal has 114 locks in 224km!

Carole’s Interesting Facts
No.13: There are a lot more British live-aboards on the canals of France than you may think.

This 16thC church in Conde sur Marne had rows of English roses - this one is called Gordon Thomas apparently! |
