Christmas, Moving and then the New Year Party in Alicante

Christmas at home again this year, we love that!

Carole gets in the mood!

Sadly less places to set at the table than previous years but Jen came up on the train and we collected Doris (and her car) from Croston.  Jen had just had her car written off by a drunk driver, her car had been parked and left on the road outside her apartment - such a shame she'd only had the car for 6 months.  Doris came to the rescue and sold Jen her car as she'd decided to move to a flat in Durham and wouldn't need the car in the future.

We love a traditional Christmas lunch and after an aperitif or two in the Derby Arms we all arrived home to a huge turkey.

On the 27th December we all went back down to Croston with Doris for Moving Day - Doris had bought a flat in Durham, a short walk from Ian and Elaine and Holly and Andrew. It was all hands to the pump; we all helped move her out and Ian and Elaine were waiting for the movers in Durham to help move her in.

We drove over to Durham with Doris and Jen and Kyri followed on to help unpack a three bedroom bungalow into a one bedroom flat - chaos!  All good though and what a good move for her.

On the 30th December we flew over to Alicante for New Year and a sneaky few days sailing in January.  Together with 14 other boats from the marina we partied New Years Eve away at La Piazza - it got messy!

We'd planned a gentle 4 day cruise, to Altea, leaving on 2nd January but after a slow morning on 1st January we decided it would be a good idea to set off early, leaving just after lunchtime, as the weather was fabulous.  We pulled into El Campello, just a few miles east of Alicante, about 4pm.  We moored and sat having a G&T on the aft deck watching the sun go down when we remembered that we had tickets for the theatre in Alicante that evening - stupid or what!  A mad dash followed, and we eventually got to the theatre in time by tram!  That'll teach us to have a big night out!  Great show at the theatre, music from across Europe played by a Russian symphony orchestra. And a tram ride back to the boat!

The following day we continued on our mini cruise and pulled in at Altea where we were joined by three other boats from Alicante.  The planned meal out was cut short when our friend (Dangerous) Dave slipped off his boat when mooring and landed on the edge of the pontoon cracking some ribs and puncturing a lung, ending up in hospital for a week.  A lucky escape if a friend hadn't heard him fall it could have ended very badly.

We slowly meandered our way back to Alicante under stunning skies stopping at the small harbours along the coast each night.

We packed the boat up and put it to bed as we were planning on taking a cycling tour around Taiwan in the new year.
