The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon

Well, what to say, I ran out of superlatives and we both ended up simply saying “wow” at every turn.
Picture of Hoover Dam from plane as we flew over
Today was just top, we got a deal on a package, £225 each, to fly to the Canyon in a small light aircraft, scooting past the Hoover Dam and across the dessert, before getting a helicopter to fly along part of and then into the canyon, land at the bottom, (4000 ft below the rim!), where we caught a boat for a trip along the Colorado River, chopper flight out and then a brief tour of the west rim, lunch, before flying back. Pretty expensive day out but for what we did it was an absolute bargain.

As for the views, the pictures say it better than I can.

The local Hualapai tribe own most of the west rim and are clearly proud of the place, the guides we chatted to really enjoyed showing if off to us tourists, some of them still live in the canyon, working 7 days on, 7 off as guides.

When we got back to the hotel we just went to the bar and drank gin and tonic, completely satisfied. Its good to be truly in awe of the world at times.
