San Francisco

We'd originally planned to stop in California and San Francisco for a couple of days but a cheap deal on flight and hotel prices in Las Vegas meant that we left less than 24 hours after getting to EssEff - but still talking like a local.

San Francisco itself is a really pretty city, small and managable by foot and cable car, unlike some other places we've been to that need a car to get anywhere. The San Frncisco Bay Area though is enormous and made up of lots of smaller cities and urban areas.

The people watching here (Carole and I are both devotees of people watching) was some of the finest we've seen, such a variety of people but they all seemed to get along and it felt like a safe city, we had no problems walking around later at night.

Its a very photogenic place with every corner revealing some view that we think we've seen before in a film and probably have.

In the short time we had we managed to have breakfast in an all American diner, (with Bob and Jan's tenner)

walk across the city,

Get a boat ride around the bay

And Alcatraz,

(not too sure about the graffiti)

Eat the famous local Dungerness(yes, I know that's in England) crab, Bob and Jan's tenner still there.

and ride a cable car up the switch back hills back to the hotel to catch a shuttle bus to the airport.

The crab put up a fight but was no match for Carole.
