Yesterday we hired a car for a week so that we can do some
touring along the Great Ocean Rd, but before that we took Jen and Bobbie out
for a trip to the Dandenong Mountains. I think we all expected them to be a
little more raw, all the 35km to the hills – they’re too small to be called
mountains really, was not exactly built up but manicured in some way or
another. The slopes themselves were
extensive eucalyptus forests and the view back to Melbourne was good but sadly
misty.
Ended up having a cream scones in a tea room called Miss Marples, filled
with Japanese tourists, somewhat surreal.
That evening we went to the night market, an enormous
covered Victorian market place that once a week sets up loads of different food
and craft stalls. It’s a bit of a local
institution and lot of people packed in to eat, talk and party.
