Finally met up with Jen again after 11 months – really good
to see her and Bobbie. They’re
thoroughly enjoying life down here and I can see why.
The city has a really relaxed sort of laid back feel, open
streets, parks, open spaces, nice buildings and bars with lots of things going
on from music to arts. We also reckon
that just about everyone is under 35, clearly we fitted in straight away.
Both Jen and Bobbie are working hard but the visa
restrictions may force them to move on, time will tell though. Both are hoping
to get sponsorship to stay but its tricky.
They both really appreciated the hats we'd bought for them in Vietnam
Just off the plane and jet lagged but that didn’t stop them
taking us on a quick tour of the city, bars and all. I blame Bob and Jan's tenner, (Half the people in the bar said - "Gawd, not seen one of them for a while")
Slow jet lagged morning the next day before we walked into the city
centre for a nosey around. We got to the
top of the Eureka Tower, the tallest building in the southern hemisphere to get
our bearings – stunning views
Melbourne’s famous Federation Square
The coast at St Kilda
Melbourne Cricket Club and the Rod Laver Tennis Centre where
they hold the Australian Open, sadly we’ll miss it but the competition for the
Aussie wildcard entries to the Open is on at the moment so we hope to get to
see those finals
Close up of the cricket ground.
Bob and Jan’s tenner 88 floors up. Is this the highest
tenner in the southern hemisphere?
Met up with Jen after she’d finished work. I again swear I
will never go drinking with my daughter again, again, again.
Very slow morning and I wish I could blame the jetlag. Will be staying here for a few days before we pick up a hire car and go hostelling along the Great Ocean road and a few bits of the interior.
