Ian and Elaine go on holiday with John and Louise most years but this year we went in their place and met up with Ian and Elaine in Turkey.
We stopped in a very pretty, small harbour town, Kalkan. Carole and I got an upgraded room, complete with private jacuzzi on one of the two balconies, it just kept getting better.
This was the first time in well over 30 years that we stayed at a hotel for more than a couple days - we are usually moving on every few days. We actually unpacked the travel bags - a real novelty!
Top holiday! Thanks Ian and Elaine.

Not too shabby!
Family photo in front of Kalkan harbour
Genuine fakes - though the "Rolex" watches were amazing
And it got hot by the pool!
But a little cooler in the evenings - the pashminas were apparently a bargain!
As was the local handmade pottery
Amazing ruins of a deserted city, it covered a huge area
Ian found a gorge walk a little way away from the hotel, apparently the deepest and narrowest in Turkey - the mud is supposed to be good for the complexion.
The water eroded the gorge through very fine limestone making the water almost milky.
It got deeper as we travelled up the gorge
A great walk
Lunch was at a local "oasis"
We then found you could raft down the rest of the river on lorry inner tubes
Freezing cold water but what a laugh.
The "guide" was an absolute Psycho!
Not far from the hotel was this little beach
Beautifully clear water.
It was a tough week!
Last meal out in Kalkan.
On the way back the airport we called in at Dalyan, where Ian and Elaine have been several times before, fascinating place. Famous for its rock tombs and Loggerhead turtles
Its a turtle, promise - we actual got to see several but the were very camera shy.
This reedy river that runs from Dalyan to the Med was the location for the filming of the African Queen - a Bogart/Hepburn classic.
The restaurant where we had our last meal before getting a taxi to the airport.
We had a great week.
